I was at Koromangala in Bangalore , at the Busy intersection of Sony world Signal, this is one of the most packed traffic signals in bangalore , it also connects various parts ,
a few minutes ago it had started raining heavily, As i was returning after discussing a blood donation camp in an organization, , I felt good that some organizations are concious about these important aspects .
while I was waiting at the signal trying to book a cab , it was also raining , so kept trying with the online aggregator to book a cab for myself...
It was about 1730 hrs traffic was moving from sony world signal towards St Johns hospital , there are a couple of intersections on that stretch.
An ambulance rolled into the road blaring siren , I felt sad as it got stuck in the traffic, thought this is the case with most roads very often , ( today morning i saw how the Traffic police had made arrangements for a heart to be transferred 11kms in just 11 minutes) but this was a different situation.
I was hoping I get a cab and I could get back to my house .
then the ambulance driver made an appeal to traffic through the PA system ' PLEASE LEAVE WAY , THIS IS AN EMERGENCY CASE'
That moved me and I started to go towards the traffic and slowly following the ambulance , and in a while the ambulance driver announced again , , by this time I was almost running towards the next signal where the traffic was held,
there was one more local guy trying to clear the traffic, when asked he told there is a tree fallen at the next signal and the road is blocked, so he was diverting the traffic,
there was chaos , confusion at this junction,
the only alternative for the ambulance was to drive on the opposite side of road and push through the onward coming traffic , which was also moving at a snails pace , this was due to the effect of fallen tree,
I walked a few hundred meters in the rain to assess the situation
A huge tree had fallen right accross the road , it had fallen on a bus , damaging the from part of the bus ,

These are times in which I feel I am trained for ,
these are the times when Rain means nothing ,
These are the times when our Country needs our help,
The basic Idea of Civil defense is with the belief that
“ the Response of a person closest to the place of Emergency will be the fastest and most effective, provided he is well trained.”
At that monent I knew what I had to do , It was pouring very heavily, and a few helping hands from public also got into shelter, Was successful in getting a plastic cover from a petty shop , secured my mobile phone , Folded my new Vanheusen Trouser upto knee level , got into the road and diverting the traffic ,
I have always enjoyed playing and being in rain , never been uncomfortable in rain , thanks to my years of Mountaineering experience.
it was really amazing to help people out giving them suggestion and getting them easy to reach their destinations.
while this was happening I updated my colleagues in the Civil Defense about the situation , and it was broadcasted in our circles,

A few more members from Our CD joined the incident site and managed the situation ,
There were people from the Electricity Board, from BBMP , Traffic police at the spot in some time ,
I would sum it up in two words 'Selfless service'
I also connect very well with the Motto of Civil Defense which is
“Steadfast persons who dedicate themselves for the welfare of all living beings, attain me”
As I was getting back home completely drenched , at around 2000 hrs, looking outside the window at all the traffic, , the thoughts of how a major city will handle emergency was running through my mind , how good would it be if people start getting more and more aware of the conditions, weather, , plan properly , and react appropriately to incidents, we have a beautiful city , very intelligent people, all it needs is for more and more people to get aware and get trained to handel situations.
With Rains will follow more such incidents,
