Mangalore Flash Floods

Our Decisions Have to Be Instinctive

I received a message about the need for our services for flood relief and emergency response. It took me split seconds to decide that I am going. (It’s never an easy decision to leave everything and walk for such a call. The case was the same with the others who attended this duty.) I am extremely happy to be part of our Quick Response Team (QRT) that went on the call of the hour.

Some thoughts that helped refresh my mind were:

In our duty, we had wardens from various religions — there were Hindus, Muslims (in spite of the Ramzan fasting), Christians, Sikhs — and we were all working towards one goal: saving lives and restoring peace. Each one decided by instinct to join this and travel to an unpredictable and unknown terrain.

The real message is:
"Humanity is not about religion or about boundaries; it’s about connecting hearts. It’s also about other forms of life, and not just humans."

If we can move beyond our excuses and find a way to deal with them, we will definitely be able to create a more peaceful Earth that we all dream about. And every individual is responsible for this.

Below message by our KCD Commander for this operation:
Dr. PRS Chetan, Officer Commanding, Karnataka Civil Defense
